InDepth: Isaiah
Declaring the God Who Actually Delivers
This is a course that gives Isaiah his due! Many bible studies look at Old Testament prophecy only for what it meant much later to people other than those to whom the prophet was speaking. We start by asking, “What did people in the prophet's own time hear him saying?” After laying down some basic principles for how to read prophets in general and Isaiah in particular, session by session, we uncover the truly amazing stories of how God raised up crippled Judah, how God brought the tiny remnant back from Babylon and how God declared he would still redeem even dispirited Israel, living listlessly again, without hope, in what had once been the land of promise. In the final week, we take a peek at the New Testament evangelists and how they reheard Isaiah for their new situation with the coming of Jesus.
