CLASSROOM COURSE

InDepth: Genesis

God’s Historical Prologue to Everything Since

This study of the first book in the Bible is a creation-fall-redemption-response look at the passion, excitement and even heroism of God’s first mighty and gracious acts. Genesis, a book of beginnings, contains several cryptic fragments of older stories which serve to set up the calling of a nation into being, a nation through whom God promises to restore all families and nations to everything they were meant to be. In this course we look at the early fragments, chapters 3-11, but the bulk of our time and attention are spent on the story of how God established a people for himself on the earth, against all odds. While we study the story itself, we discuss the problems which the story presents and together we learn principles of interpretation and a method of inquiry which allows the story its own integrity, even as we are empowered to hear it again for our lives.
